Randomness in London

February 18, 2011

Well I officially got a new bed. It is a double bed and really comfy. I even got new sheets and a blanket and it looks very nice in my room. It is really cool because it has drawers underneath it which most of the big beds here don’t have.  I also received my birthday gifts from home. I was excited. I got a photo album that instructed me not to cry, yet I did when I looked through it. Then I got a family picture frame and a picture frame with Believe in it. I also got two sets of earrings.
We went a surprise birthday party for a friend which meant we had to sit in the dark for ages waiting for him to return home. Then we yelled surprise when he came in. Brandy and Jen bought a piƱata for him shaped like a soccer ball and they filled it with salt as an on going joke. He smashed it and salt went everywhere then they yelled that he got salted! It was quite funny!
This past weekend we went to the Timeplan social for work. There was free alcohol so that was awesome. There was also bowling but we didn’t have money so I just helped Brian out by bowling once each frame for him. I had never bowled drunk before and I was surprised to still be doing okay. At least the ball went down the lane. I got quite drunk on all the free alcohol and then we went to McDonalds which was awesome. The next morning I heard all about the parts of the night I forgot and how hilarious I was. I also realized that when I am drunk I am capable of using my debit card (pin number included), taking out my contacts, and setting my alarm. However, I am not capable of putting my shirt on the correct way (it was backwards), keeping the time on my alarm clock the same (I changed it to an hour later), or putting my phone where it belongs (found it in my bed under the sheets). Pretty funny!
Today we went to a house party and hung out. And I bought my brand new HP Mini computer!!! So excited since my other computer has tons of virus’s and won’t let me do anything. Also excited that I can upload pictures onto facebook without it taking years! It’s amazing what a new computer can do.
Tomorrow I will be packing for Prague and on Monday I fly there! So excited for my week in Prague and I shall have a blog update when I get back.

Another thing that will happen quicker is my blog updates since now I can actually post them!

Until next time,

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!!!

Or Happy Single’s Awareness Day. Even though I am single I did not let Valentines Day ruin my day at all. At school we made valentines then after school I ate chocolate, and went to Mad Dog’s house with Rachel and Jen. We rented the scary movie the Devil then ordered Chinese Food. We ate a bunch of food and we freaked out….well I freaked out watching the movie and it was lovely. I was definitely the entertainment for the night.

Happy Birthday To Me!

February 9, 2011

It’s my birthday!!!!! YAY!!!!!! I am officially 23 (although the other day I had to count to make sure I actually was 23 lol).  My birthday actually was a week long event. And on my actual birthday I got many, many birthday wishes and phone calls and spent time with my friends. My day began by going to work and having my kids leave me a message and a card along with a gift from my TA. My kids were pretty good throughout the day, not too bad. After work I just relaxed for a while and napped and waited for dinner. Rachel and I made mac and cheese and hot dogs for dinner and Richard came over (and brought me wine J ) and Jen and Brandy joined us in the kitchen and Nicole brought me chocolate. After dinner we watched some friends and then the Italian job. I got phone calls from my mommy (the first person to call me on my birthday), my baby brother (so excited!), my dad (at 8:34 to officially wish me a 23rd birthday), and again from my mommy, daddy, & uncle! I also got serenaded by my uncle….thank you very much! It was very exciting!

My birthday continued on Saturday for my birthday dinner/party!!!

Saturday night we all went out to Frankie and Benny’s (A New York Italian Restaurant in Romford) for dinner. Chris, Anna, Brandy, Jen, Rachel, Tiffany, Sarah, Kristi, Steph, Richard, and Jim and Liz came. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and spinach and ricotta canella. Despite the fact that we had to wait for 20 minutes even though I had a reservation and the waitress wasn’t the greatest, it was fun. The food was good and it was nice to all be together. We even got the gratuity tax taken off because of the poor service thanks to Jen. After dinner we headed to the pub for a drink. Richard bought be a cranberry and vodka and we just stayed for a tiny bit. Then we headed to the club- Brannigans. They were playing some older music but I liked it and I had lots of fun drinking fish bowls and dancing!!! I dance a lot! The whole night! It was great. More people showed up and we had lots of fun. I got a little drunk lol. By the end of the night, at about 2 am Rachel, Richard, Steph and I (the only ones who stayed that late) left. We stopped at McDonalds so I could get food and then we headed home. I had a little trouble walking in my shoes, considering for most of the time in the club I had taken my shoes off to dance, it was very difficult to walk home. Thank goodness Richard was there. He even didn’t drink at the club just so that he could make sure I got home okay! How sweet! Once home, I needed to sit outside my room for a bit pondering how I could manage to actually make it into my room. Finally, I worked it out and then I talked to Molly on the phone for a while. It was a great night!

Happy 23rd Birthday to Me in ENGLAND!!!!

Chickidy China the Chinese Chicken

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!!!

The actual Chinese new year was during the week but on Sunday they were having a festival in London at
Trafalgar Square
and Chinatown. Rachel and I decided to venture in and see what it was all about. There were tons of decorations and tons and tons of people. At one point I thought we might get crushed in the crowd (we were even at a stand still at one point). However, there were some really cool things to look at. There were people dressed up with fortunes and a tree where you could throw a bag and make a wish and if your bag stayed in the tree your wish came true. Rachel threw one and it stayed in! We walked around looking at the different decorations and we also bought a paper dragon to play with! Then we went to see the dragon dance! It was in
Trafalgar Square
and was really hard to see because there were so many people, so instead we watched it on the screen t.v. Then we decided we were starving but we didn’t feel like waiting in the huge lines for Chinese food so we stopped at a little sandwich shop and ate. Then we met up with Liz and her roommates for gelato! It was sooooo good. I got the caramel one…yum! Finally we headed home to relax after a day of being in a huge crowd.

Until next time,

Tex Mex

January 29, 2011

On a day when Rachel and I had planned on relaxing at the movies, we were convinced to go shopping in London instead. We didn’t expect to buy much, however we did enjoy shopping at TK Max and found some nice dressed that could be worn any season and I also found my birthday dress which I was really excited about! The day didn’t start off the greatest as when we got into London we realized there was a riot/protest going on in the street with tons of people and lots of cops. However, apparently it had been going on all day and most of the people had left. They didn’t bother us and we went on with our shopping. We decided to eat at a restaurant called Tex Mex. It was really cool. They had Mexican food and country music playing and even a bull’s head on the wall. I thought this would be the perfect place for my parents. I had a strawberry daiquiri and Rachel got her whisky sour. Then I ordered the vegetarian quesadillas which had spinach and mushrooms in them and were soooo good. As we were leaving to go home we noticed that everyone in the restaurant was looking out the window. We went over to see what it was and the protest had gone bad with a guy attacking the police and then the police attacking him and his friend to calm them down. It didn’t get too out of hand but we avoided walking that way and could see in the distance a much bigger crowd of people protesting. It was a little crazy!

Three Museums in Two Days…you must be crazy!

January 22, 23, 2011

Sorry this is so late, it has been busy over here but I am finally getting around to it. In January Rachel and I ventured into London to meet up with Liz (who I worked with at Michaels) and her roommates, they are studying abroad over here for the semester, in London. We had originally planned on seeing two museums in the two days but realized that three museums were right next to each other and decided to do those and possibly one more. Therefore, our adventure began at the Science Museum. There are lots of floors to explore. We looked all the different plastics, then clocks, and boats, and cars. Each floor has something interesting to look at. We also looked at the history of the earth floor and I got to hold the world in the palm of my hand J. Then we found the best and most crowded floor of all…..the kids floor! It had tons of stuff for the kids to play with involving science. Rachel and I tried doing as much as possible, but it was hard with it being so packed. We took pictures of ourselves in heat sensitive light, took shadow pictures, saw a bubble wall, and even looked at each other through a wall!! However, the best part of the floor was the beginning where there was a huge metal pole with a sign saying DO NOT TOUCH. It explained that an electrical current ran through the pole and if you touched it you would be shocked. However, it did say if you wanted to touch it you could but you were warned. I decided I wanted to touch it, however I was also very scared of getting shocked. I cautiously approached the pole and tentatively held out my finger, putting it slowly through the bars and resting it on the pole and……….Nothing happened. So I quickly pulled my finger away and repeated the process. Each time I still didn’t get shocked. I called over Liz and her roommates and they all touched it quickly and nothing happened either. Now Rachel on the other hand would have nothing to do with it. But since all 4 of us had touched it without any shock I told Rachel she should just touch it. I started to believe the sign was only there to scare you. So Rachel stepped up and as I went to get a picture of her this loud noise rang out and she jumped and we all screamed. It shocked her! Apparently, we were not holding the pole long enough for the shock to charge up and since she kept her finger on it, it shocked her. It was absolutely hilarious, although she was a little mad at us haha. The next best part was this mat you could stand on while following the directions on the screen. At one point you had to swing your arms and I was taking picture of Rachel doing this the whole time. It was not so funny to watch her do it, but it was really funny to look back at the pictures where her arms are blurred so much it looks like she doesn’t have any!

After the Science Museum we ventured over to the National History Museum. This museum had lots of skeletons and fossils and rocks. There were some really pretty ones and the coolest one was the dinosaur skeleton at the end in the lobby (kind of like in Night at the Museum but not as cool). There was also a huge chandelier looking piece in the lobby all made of glass which was really cool. However, my favorite part of the museum was the earthquake simulator. It was a moving floor that looked like a grocery store and it simulated an earthquake that happened in Japan. Not only did the floor move but they had a tv showing the video camera footage of this earthquake in the store when it happened. This was my favorite part and I think I rode on it for about 3 times!

After the museums we went back to Liz’s flat, ate McDonalds and just relaxed and chatted for a while. At around 8 o’clock we decided to go to Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus to look around and shop at little bit. We found a really cool store with everything having to do with London and a London Beatle there. We also walked across a scary bridge, but I did stop to get my picture taken. Then we went back to Liz’s flat for the night.

Museums- Take Two

Or take 3 since this was our third for the weekend. The next day we went to the V & A Museum (the Victoria and Albert museum). I would have to say this one was my favorite (even though the kids floor in the Science museum was pretty cool). This museum not only had lots of really cool things to look at, but also hands on sections. There were really cool statues and a new time period for each room (The rooms never ended either). They had some really cool stuff like a carpet that was completely closed in glass that had to be lit only part of the day to preserve it. They also had costumes from many productions and even a place to try some costumes on. They had a wall that looked like you were standing outside but really it was enclosed. They had a massive bible and religious statues. They had crowns and jewels. It was really cool and they had lots of beautiful things to look at. And the best part was you could take pictures…so be sure to look for those!

After the museum Liz went home and Rachel and I tried finding someplace to eat. Right outside the museum on a telephone booth was a note saying You Should Call Your Mother, so I decided it was best to follow that advice and I called home while we looked around for someplace to eat. We decided to splurge and went to the Spaghetti House, which was perfect since I was craving spaghetti and meatballs and that is what I got. Then we headed home and were going to have a night in but got invited to go watch a movie at a friend’s house. So we watched She’s All That….such a good movie haha.

Until Next time,
